Lullabies is an experiential installation that responses to the general lack of rest in the high-pressure city like Hong Kong. The artist Kingsley Ng and the creative team of Lullabies have worked together with curator Angel Leung and Videotage to transform the East Kowloon Cultural Centre (EKCC) into a sanctuary for respite in the middle of the bustling city, inviting the public to get into a deep dialogue with “rest” in an immersive light and sound installation.
The experience consists of four parts: site-specific light and sound interaction “The City Never Sleeps” is synchronised with real-time trains passing outside the venue, streaming the projection of a train into the architectural interior, transcending a restless urban reality to become contemplation of fleeting time. The social engagement installation “Rest Is…” collected thoughts from nearly 100 from diverse demographics, ranging in age from 5 to 96 years old and printed on the pillows reflect the reality of the society. The light and sound installation “Twinkling Lullabies” in the theatre reverses the traditional relationship between the stage and the audience: sitting on the stage, the audience reverts their gaze to the empty auditorium of 500 seats.
An earlier rendition of the work, Passage, premiered at the Centre Pompidou in Paris in 2023.

L’artiste Kingsley Ng et l’équipe créative de Lullabies, ont collaboré avec la commissaire Angel Leung et Videotage pour transformer le centre culturel d’East Kowloon (EKCC) en un sanctuaire de répit au milieu de la ville animée, invitant le public à entamer un dialogue profond avec le « repos » dans une installation lumineuse et sonore immersive.
L’expérience se compose de quatre parties : l’interaction lumineuse et sonore spécifique au site « The City Never Sleeps » est synchronisée avec les trains qui passent en temps réel à l’extérieur du lieu, diffusant la projection d’un train à l’intérieur de l’architecture, transcendant une réalité urbaine agitée pour devenir une contemplation du temps fugace. L’installation d’engagement social « Rest Is… » a recueilli les pensées d’une centaine de personnes issues de divers groupes démographiques, âgées de 5 à 96 ans, qui ont été imprimées sur des oreillers reflétant la réalité de la société. L’installation lumineuse et sonore « Twinkling Lullabies » dans le théâtre renverse la relation traditionnelle entre la scène et le public : assis sur la scène, le public reporte son regard sur l’auditorium vide de 500 sièges.
Une version antérieure de l’œuvre, Passage, a été présentée pour la première fois au Centre Pompidou à Paris en 2023.

在香港這高壓城市，人們普遍缺乏休息，藝術家伍韶勁及創作團隊共同創作的體驗裝置《夜未眠》以休怎息為題，由梁安琦策劃並與錄映太奇合作，把東九龍文化中心轉化為鬧市中的休憩空間，邀請公眾在身歷其境的燈光和聲音裝置中與「休息」深入對話。
此體驗由四個部分組成：特定場地的燈光與聲音互動裝置「不眠城中」與窗外即時駛過的列車同步，將其投影放進建築內部，超越躁動的都市現實，思考稍縱即逝的時間。社會參與裝置「休息盼想」蒐集了近百名來自不同族群對休息的想法，印在枕頭上反映大眾想法。劇場內的聲光裝置「微光叮嚀」則對倒了舞台與觀眾之間的傳統關係：觀眾坐在舞台上，將目光移向空無一人的 500 個座位。
此作前身《Passage》於 2023 年在巴黎龐比度中心首演。
